The Junior League of Nashville (JLN) was founded in 1922 by a group of visionary women committed to serving the Nashville community in a volunteer capacity. Today, JLN has 2,000 members and remains committed to developing the potential of women as leaders and grass-roots volunteers in charitable causes that improve the lives of women, children and families. Community needs on which JLN focuses include: abuse and neglect, children and families at risk, educationally disadvantaged youth, children’s and women’s health and quality of life. The League is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International. Of the 293 leagues around the world with a total of 171,000 members, the Junior League of Nashville is the twelfth largest League in the Association. JLN has founded many important Nashville resources such as Renewal House, the Red Shield Family Initiative and the JLN Children’s Services at the downtown Nashville Public Library. JLN founded the Junior League Home for Crippled Children in 1923, which is now a part of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and remains a major focus of JLN philanthropy and volunteer support. JLN is supported by membership dues, Annual Fund gifts, by major fundraisers such as such as the Tis the Season Holiday Marketplace, and by JLN’s award-winning cookbook, Notably Nashville.
