Mayor Dean reaches out to area young professionals
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the 20/20 Leadership Alliance continue to engage and empower area young professionals with educational and valuable opportunities. This was clearly demonstrated at Feb. 20's Meet Your New Mayor Forum at Father Ryan High School. Mayor Karl Dean addressed topics such as public education, public safety and economic development, while incorporating what young professionals can do to support these efforts.

Many of the young professionals in attendance posed questions concentrating on education and green space in Nashville. In response to concerns about recruitment and retention of qualified teachers, Dean suggested more local businesses partner with public schools to help cut some of teachers' out-of-pocket costs. There is always a need for community involvement in the educational system, even for those who do not have children attending a Metro public school.

Two key issues facing Nashville-area YPs are traffic and public transportation. Many citizens are looking to public transportation as an alternative to driving, thus saving on the cost of gas and limiting the amount of pollution poured into the atmosphere. Dean encouraged individuals to take advantage of Nashville's public transportation system, while recognizing the need for major improvements to be made in the future.

Overall, the young professionals of Nashville met their mayor with strong handshakes and valuable inquiries. This demographic of young leaders show a great deal of confidence and compassion for the city they call home. Leaders like these are what make Nashville such a thriving city.
