Are you connected to your neighborhood ... to your job ... to Nashville?
In last month's issue, we learned about the variety of wonderful things to do in our great city. (If you happened to miss it, click here for a recap.) Aside from enjoying all of the sights and fun that Nashville has to offer, each of us wants to be connected -- to those around us, to our community, and to things we are passionate about. Use these helpful tips to engage yourself in four ways:
Thrive where you live!
- Take a walk and see what things have changed. The view from the sidewalk can offer a completely different perspective than from the front seat of your car.
- Meet a new neighbor and welcome him/her to the community. You never know when you will see a smiling face across the street or in the apartment next door.
- Start a book club, dinner group or some other social group with those who live around you. They may enjoy the same things you do. It can be once a month or once a year, but you will look forward to seeing familiar faces and learning new ones.
Engage yourself where you work!
- Change up your lunch routine. Find a new restaurant, or invite a new co-worker to eat with you at lunch. If you always go out, try staying in the cafeteria or break room for a different feel and to get to know different co-workers.
- Thank your co-workers and your boss when they do something you appreciate or help you out on a project. The smallest amount of appreciation can go a long way in building strong relationships with your co-workers.
- Write thank-you notes to your clients. Even if you only write one or two a week, these few minutes will make a lasting impression. It will not only make a difference in your business now, but can make a difference in your business in the future.
Get involved in the community!
- Join a young professionals organization! There are many in Nashville, and one is perfect for you. Click here for a listing.
- Give back to the community by volunteering. You may have time to give one hour a week, one hour a month, or one hour a year. Find an organization that you are passionate about and get involved in the way that best fits you.
- Get together with a group of friends or your family, and do one thing new around town every month. This will increase your knowledge of the city while giving you quality time to bond with your friends.
